“At Groot Phesantekraal, we raise a glass to our heritage and the timeless art of winemaking, blending ancient traditions with cutting-edge technology to create wines that truly embody their terroir.”

Rich in history, Groot Phesantakraal has been in the Brink family since 1897, when a Cape-born adventurer named Arend Brink bought this picturesque farm in Durbanville. While the land flourished as a cattle, sheep, and grain farm, the fourth-generation owners, Andre and Ronelle Brink, transformed it into the Award-winning wine farm it is today.

The heart of this family-run farm emanates from the original manor house, which dates back to 1720 and although lovingly restored by the Brinks, the thatched roof and burnt beams, tell tales of a bygone era. This is a working farm where the hum of tractors and the occasional pause for a combine harvester are part of the enchanting rhythm of life.

Nestled on the northeast side of Durbanville, where the cool ocean breeze dances with the subtle interior heat, Groot Phesantekraal is blessed with fertile soil and a perfect climate, which yields wines of unparalleled quality and authentic character. From the first Cabernet in 2005 to the recent debut of the Petit Syrah, each bottle is a testament to the family’s philosophy of producing limited-release wines that showcase the best of the Durbanville Wine Valley.

The charmingly restored restaurant now occupies the old stable built-in 1767. The original stone floor and wooden mangers blend harmoniously with the modern, contemporary furniture. With generous flavours and modern touches, each plate is a harmonious fusion of country cooking and cherished traditional recipes. A feast that not only satisfies the palate but also celebrates the farm’s magnificent wines.

Groot Phesantekraal continues to evolve, and the newly built tasting room – a glass box of elegance and chic where each wine is served in Schott Zwiesel glassware – is a testament to this forward-thinking family. Indulge in delectable cheese and charcuterie platters, as the knowledgeable tasting room ambassadors guide you through the captivating journey of winemaking. It’s not just a sensory delight, but an educational escapade that will leave you craving for more.
