Exciting plans to unlock the potential of Hout Bay’s popular harbour, and to enhance this seaside village’s public spaces, will greatly improve the lives of all communities living in this area.

So says Hout Bay’s ward councillor, Roberto Quintas, who shared some of several initiatives in the pipeline that will help to ensure that this area attracts investment and provides ample opportunities for those who live here, with Pam Golding Properties. “All efforts are aimed at integrating the communities of Hout Bay, as part of the long-term revitalisation of this area,” says Quintas.

Hout Bay’s quaint harbour is already a drawcard for locals and visitors looking to enjoy some of the best fresh fish and chips in Cape Town – Fish on the Rocks is one of Hout Bay’s most popular eateries. The harbour is also home to the vibrant Bay Harbour Market that provides an ideal spot to enjoy craft beers and artisan meals, while listening to the energetic drumming of local artists.

Quintas says public-private partnerships to further unlock the potential of this landmark, similar to what has been done with Cape Town’s Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, will add to the appeal of this quintessential harbour.

Extensive work is being done on improving access to Imizamo Yethu, to ensure that service vehicles can reach homes in case of an emergency. While there are no expansion plans for Imizamo Yethu, the municipality is making sure that this community has the infrastructure it needs to ensure the safety of its residents. This includes additional lighting and more green spaces.

The City of Cape Town is working with Friends of the Rivers of Hout Bay and building retention ponds to collect pollution in the Disa River. Work includes ensuring safe access to the river for recreational purposes.

The public outdoor gym at the Hout Bay Common is already being put to good use, says Quintas. A dedicated dog park, where Hout Bay’s four-legged residents will have a safe space to explore and enjoy a drink of water, is almost complete. Other projects include a designated picnic area at the Hout Bay Common and the installation of hard courts and a play area at the Sports Complex at the Hout Bay Gateway Circle.

“What makes Hout Bay appealing is its sense of community, and initiatives such as these – which bring communities together – is what makes Hout Bay such a wonderful place to live. Aside from its breathtaking natural beauty – pristine beaches and mountain views – Hout Bay is conveniently located just a short drive from Cape Town’s city centre and within easy reach of the Southern Suburbs and South Peninsula,” says Francis Samson, Pam Golding Properties agent for Hout Bay.

She adds: “We are committed to uplifting the whole community to ensure the sustainability of this picturesque corner of the peninsula – not just to retain the value of our properties, but for the benefit of the generations who will go on to enjoy what Hout Bay has to offer.”
