Spring has arrived, and with it comes one of South Africa’s best-loved traditions: Garden Day SA.
On Sunday, 18 October 2026, gardens across the country will once again become places of celebration rather than chores, as families, friends and neighbours put down their tools, put on their flower crowns and simply enjoy the green spaces around them.
Now in its 11th year, Garden Day is a nationwide reminder that every garden matters — whether it’s a sprawling backyard, a sunny balcony or a single pot on a windowsill.
This year’s theme, From Garden to Table: Grow, Gather, Celebrate, turns the spotlight on the many ways our gardens nourish us — not only through the food we grow and share, but through the calm, connection and sense of wellbeing that come from working the soil.

What is Garden Day?
At its heart, Garden Day isn’t about having the perfect garden — it’s about celebrating the one you have.
Host a relaxed braai, lay out a picnic under a tree or simply enjoy a quiet cup of tea in your favourite garden corner.
This year, the much-loved tradition of the flower crown also gets a fresh, edible twist. South Africans are encouraged to weave herbs, edible flowers, leafy greens and even vegetables into their crowns.

Growing food, growing community — a Johannesburg story
The spirit of Garden Day extends far beyond our own backyards.
Our Regional Head for Gauteng Metro, Mariël Burger, recently met Derek Cheesman, founder of Harvest of Hope, at the Killarney Community Garden to learn more about the work being done to grow food, skills and stronger communities across Johannesburg.
Harvest of Hope supports gardens at a number of organisations and community spaces, including Guild Cottage in Parktown, Jan Cilliers Primary School in Parkwood, Killarney Park, Abraham Kriel Campus in Observatory — where the garden now supplies all of the home’s kitchen spinach — and the NG Kerk Andrew Murray garden in Orchards.
For the past three and a half years, the Orchards garden has supported a soup kitchen while also providing mentorship to more than 15 community members.
“We provide seedlings, seeds and advice to schools, old age homes and children’s homes, and aim to expand by another three to four establishments this year,” says Derek Cheesman.
It’s a wonderful reminder of what can happen when something as simple as a seed is given the opportunity to grow.
Join us on Garden Day at Nine Yards
On the morning of Sunday, 18 October, the Pam Golding Properties Gauteng Metro team will be at Nine Yards celebrating Garden Day — and handing out flower crowns.
Make your own crown at home, get creative with herbs and edible flowers, or pop into your local florist for a helping hand. Garden Day SA’s flower crown gallery is also packed with inspiration.

Celebrating for a cause — supporting Pave The Way
This year, our Garden Day celebrations also provide an opportunity to give back.
Following the success of our 2025 raffle in support of Christen Aksie Netwerk (C.A.N.) in Cape Town North, Pam Golding Properties Gauteng Metro will be running a raffle in aid of Pave The Way’s Johannesburg street clean-up work.
Thanks to GardenShop, who have generously sponsored this year’s raffle prizes, proceeds from every ticket sold via Quicket will go directly towards supporting Pave The Way.
The initiative builds on our ongoing support of the Heart of Gold Trust and our belief that creating thriving neighbourhoods extends beyond the homes we sell — it includes caring for the communities and shared spaces around them.
