This October, garden lovers are invited to spend a weekend surrounded by greenery, beautiful blooms and a little Johannesburg history as the Johannesburg Garden Club celebrates its 75th anniversary with its annual Open Garden.
Taking place on Saturday, 17 and Sunday, 18 October 2026, from 10:00 to 16:00 daily, the Open Garden will welcome visitors to 70 4th Avenue, Inanda, Johannesburg, for two days of gardening, shopping, food and entertainment, all in support of Joburg Child Welfare.
This year’s theme, “Gardening for good – in style – for 75 years!”, celebrates an incredible milestone for the Johannesburg Garden Club and its longstanding commitment to bringing people together through a shared love of gardening while giving back to the community.
Visitors will have the opportunity to wander through 1.5 acres of mature garden and discover an inspiring collection of plants, established landscaping and garden features.
The Johannesburg Garden Club’s famous plant sale will also return, offering an assortment of unusual plants, roses and clematis. Among the highlights will be the new ‘Gwen Gill’ rose, as well as Garden Bleu ironwork for those looking to add something special to their own outdoor spaces.
For treasure hunters, the Portobello Road Market stand will feature a collection of pre-loved finds, Italian terracotta pots, brandy wine barrels and other unique pieces.
There will be plenty to enjoy beyond the garden.
Guests can settle in for bubbles and smoked salmon, tea and cake, enjoy wines from Copeland Wine Estate and Zevenwacht, and soak up the atmosphere with live music throughout the weekend.
Most importantly, every visit contributes to a meaningful cause, with proceeds from the Open Garden supporting Joburg Child Welfare.
