The Mother’s City’s natural beauty is unrivalled – from iconic Table Mountain to the pristine beaches that hug the coastline, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Cape Town also boasts an enviable lifestyle, characterised by chilled organic markets, world-class cuisine, idyllic spots for sundowners, and scenic coastal and country drives.

It offers a wide variety of sports and entertainment activities and exhilarating walks and runs along its many mountain trails.

And then there are the diverse and eclectic communities that contribute to Cape Town’s unique culture and vibrant city centre.

Here are a few reminders, for those considering investing or buying a home in Cape Town, why this city is considered one of the best places in the world to live.

  1. Cape Town is the top performing metro property market in SA, with house price inflation consistently in the double digits in recent years, translating into sound investment returns over the medium to longer term.
However, among the world’s prime global cities, Cape Town still offers incredible value. For a buyer, $1 million gets you 177m² of prime property in Cape Town, while the same investment would get you 52m2 in Sydney, 46m2 in Paris, and just 22m2 in New York. According to expatica.com, the cost of living in Cape Town is 57% cheaper than in New York and 55% cheaper than in London.
  2. The City of Cape Town has seen major development in recent months, with the city approving building plans to the value of R20.4 billion over the 11-month period ending May 2019. And there are more projects in the pipeline.
  3. Western Cape’s investment promotion agency Wesgro says it has helped secure R2.85-billion in investment in the province during the 2018/19 financial year. This will be realised over the next five years, boosting growth / economic activity and creating nearly 1 000 jobs.
  4. Cape Town, and Stellenbosch as part of the greater area, is considered Africa’s tech hub, attracting venture capital, international call centres and providing 40 000 jobs in the industry.
  5. Cape Town racks up international awards on an almost daily basis. Some recent accolades include:
  • Cape Town International is Africa’s best airport
  • Table Mountain is Africa’s leading tourist destination
  • Cape Town named by Forbes as one of the world’s most beautiful cities
  • Cape Town has the most plant and animal species in the world – City Nature Challenge
  • Cape Town is the best cities in the world to live, according to Deutsche Bank, outranking cities such as Paris and London.
