During the past 30 days, almost half of the 62 residences released for sale in the landmark redevelopment, Mama Shelter Residences Cape Town on Bree Street, have already been sold.

A total of 27 residences, valued collectively at just over R100 million, have been secured by buyers who have each paid a non-refundable deposit.

Rapidly taking shape, Mama Shelter Residences forms part of a larger mixed-use development by Kasada and Ingenuity, set to open in Q3 2026. With a construction workforce of more than 600 currently on site each day, the completed project will employ over 150 people across the hotel and its three food and beverage outlets.

Kasada is an independent real estate private equity firm focused on Africa’s hospitality sector, while Ingenuity is a leading property and development company based in the Western Cape. Mama Shelter itself was originally founded in 2008 by the Trigano family, and in 2014 partnered with Accor, one of the world’s largest hospitality groups. Today, it forms part of Ennismore, a creative hospitality collective known for brands rooted in culture and community.

High demand from local and international buyers
“The response to the launch of these stylish apartments in vibrant Bree Street has been exceptional,” says Basil Moraitis, regional head of Pam Golding Properties in the Western Cape. “The majority of purchasers are familiar with the brand offering, mainly acquiring studio, one- and two-bedroom residences for leisure use.” Apartment prices start from around ZAR3 million (including VAT).

Adds Dr Andrew Golding, chief executive of the Pam Golding Property group: “In the realm of luxury real estate, branded residences have become an increasingly distinctive and attractive option. The association with a successful global brand offering hallmark quality, design and service, provides strong motivation for buyers and investors alike. Established brand recognition also raises the profile of a development, drawing wider attention and enhancing its long-term value.”

A lifestyle brand with global appeal
Celebrated across Europe, Mama Shelter hotels are renowned for their eclectic interiors and playful ambience. Each property serves as a vibrant social hub, with lively restaurants and bars, live music, karaoke rooms, CinéMama screenings and more. With its distinctive personality, commitment to great food and local culture, and its ability to connect people, Mama Shelter has become a sought-after destination in major cities, and Cape Town’s Bree Street venue is expected to be no exception.

Globally, Mama Shelter welcomes more than one million visitors annually. Beyond hospitality, the brand is often credited with contributing to the revitalisation of urban districts by attracting diverse groups of travellers, including professionals, families, digital nomads and ‘bleisure’ visitors blending work and leisure.

Exclusive benefits for residents
Owners at Mama Shelter Residences Cape Town will enjoy access to on-demand lifestyle services through Mama Cares and Mama Magic – from yoga and Pilates to pet pampering, nanny services and party planning, among others. In addition, they receive Gold Status in the Accor Owner Benefits Programme, offering VVIP treatment worldwide, including:

  • a dedicated VIP reservations desk,

  • 20% off best available rates at over 5 700 participating Accor hotels and resorts, and

  • automatic upgrades on arrival where available.

With its distinctive mix of design, culture, convenience and international hospitality, Mama Shelter Residences Cape Town is set to become an iconic addition to the city’s buzzing Bree Street.
