Moving into a new home marks the beginning of something new. A new address, a new chapter and, often, a chance to take stock of everything we’ve accumulated along the way.

It’s also the perfect opportunity to let go of the things we no longer need and to make sure they don’t simply end up in a landfill.

At Pam Golding Properties Westrand, we believe that moving home can be about more than changing where you live. Through our partnership with Clothes to Good, our office’s Heart of Gold initiative gives our clients an opportunity to turn unwanted clothing and household textiles into something that can create meaningful change for people, communities and the environment.

Decluttering is often one of the biggest parts of preparing for a move. Cupboards are opened, drawers are emptied and suddenly you’re faced with clothes you haven’t worn in years, bedding that no longer suits your home, shoes that have seen better days and household items that have quietly been taking up space.

Before you put them in the bin, consider giving them another life.

Clothes to Good collects post-consumer clothing, shoes, bedding, curtains, fashion accessories and other textile waste. These items are carefully processed at its recycling facility in Centurion, where they are sorted according to their potential for reuse, repair and donation, up-cycling, down-cycling, shredding or responsible destruction.

What may feel like something you’re simply clearing out of your home can therefore become part of something much bigger.

From your cupboards to a community
The value of a donation goes beyond keeping textiles out of landfills.

Clothes to Good uses the funds generated from recyclable materials to support social impact initiatives that create opportunities for people and communities. Its programmes focus on areas including sustainable livelihoods, early childhood development, employment opportunities and inclusion for people with disabilities.

Among these initiatives is the 123ECD Programme, which provides educational resources made from recycled textiles to under-resourced Early Childhood Development centres.

The Toy Factory transforms textile waste into educational toys and learning materials, helping young children learn through play.

Through its Micro-Business Programme, women are supported in creating sustainable livelihoods by selling quality pre-loved clothing.

The Enabling Denim Programme gives donated denim a new purpose by transforming it into new products while creating employment opportunities.

And through the OnRoute Programme, people with disabilities receive workplace training and supported employment opportunities.

So, when you donate something you no longer need, you’re not simply getting rid of it. You’re helping create a circular journey where materials, skills and opportunities can continue to move forward.

A Heart of Gold that starts at home
As a Pam Golding Properties Westrand client, your property journey can extend beyond buying or selling a home.

When you’re preparing to move, we encourage you to look around your home with fresh eyes. Think about what you’re taking with you, what you’re leaving behind and what could be given a second chance.

Through our Heart of Gold initiative with Clothes to Good, we’re proud to help make that process a little more purposeful.

Because finding a new home is about looking forward.

And sometimes, making room for what comes next starts with giving what you already have a new beginning.

When buying or selling a property through Pam Golding Properties Westrand, speak to your agent about how you can support our Clothes to Good initiative and give your pre-loved textiles another purpose.

Declutter with purpose. Move with heart. Give a little more good.
