African Oryx Safaris
A fully Game fenced property 6290,7514ha (9 titles) situated in the Western Cape 45km from Oudtshoorn and 70km from Mossel Bay. This property is situated in the Outeniqua Mountains and is accessible from Mossel Bay through the Robertson Pass (R328) and accessible from Oudtshoorn via Volmoed. The Outeniqua Mountains form a natural barrier between the coastal Garden Route and Arid Karoo interior.
The property has a recently built off-grid (Lux 5KW inverter, 14.3 KVA solar edge battery, 7KW solar panels PV) accommodation in the form of a central kitchen, lounge, dining room with an outside boma and 2 separate units, each having 2 rooms en-suite. The only other accommodation is in the form of a well-built old farmhouse that could easily be transformed with a little bit of imagination.
Game is well-suited to this area, the dry climate eliminating many diseases which typically restrict game breeding. The Cape Eland do particularly well on this property.
The approximate numbers and species are 240 Cape Eland, 78 Buffalo, 100 Kudu, 100 Springbuck, 120 Impala, 1 Black Impala, 55 Blue Wildebeest, 8 Black Wildebeest, 20 Gemsbuck, 40 Burchell's Zebra, 20 Red Hartebeest, 25 Waterbuck, 30 Blesbuck, 5 Giraffe, 1 Sable Antelope, 20 Klipspringer, 24 Grey Rhebuck.
The property is mountainous in areas but traversable and accessible. The vegetation is dominated by the Ari Dapped Little Karoo (succulent karoo) Biome characterised by shrubs, succulents and hardy grasses. The mountainous areas feature fynbos while the riverine areas have sweet thorn trees. The rainfall is about 200 -220mm per annum. The Gourtiz River forms a natural boundary for 3.2km while the Kamma River running from East to West forms a natural boundary for about 8km.
There are numerous boreholes on the property as well as fountains that supply permanent water. The potential for irrigation is significant if one was to utilise the underground water.
