1. Plantations 617ha

Permitted timber allowed is 617.34ha with water licences. Current timber include Eucalyptus – Nitens, Macarthurii and Benthamii and Pine – Patula. Eucalyptus plantations are mostly coppice growth. Another 372.66ha of land can still be planted. Total land with water licences – 990ha.

2. Grazing – 600 ha

The Gazing mostly consist of sour grasses common to the area and altitude. The carrying capacity is around 3-4ha per LSU (livestock unit) Plantations compartments are also grazed in order to lower the risk of fires. The farm is divided into camps with water is all camps.

3. Planted pastures – 30ha of Aragrostis to supplement grazing in winter

4. Dry lands – 72 ha of well fertilized lands, currently planted with maize and soya

Topography

The farm comprises mostly of sloping terrain that descends from the northern boundary towards the southern boundary. From there it becomes more moderate sloping, leading down towards the eastern border.

Climate

Rainfall between 650mm and 1000mm per annum, mostly during the summer. Lowest rainfall in June and highest in January. The temperature ranges between 15 degrees in June to 32 degrees in January. Coldest months are June and July when the average lowest temperature can drop to 2 degrees.

Soil conditions and grass

There are various soils in the area namely Clovelly and Hutton. Grasses include Themeda trianda( Red Grass), Wasbank and Clencoe. The soils are reddish to light brown and sandy with sandstone mix which are suitable for crops, vegetables etc.
