Prime Cattle Farm
Uplands is situated approximately 5km from Cathcart on the R351. The start of
the property is on the right and left hand side of the road approximately 3km from Cathcart in a North Easterly direction. The farms topography is described as flat to moderately slopped. The majority of the grazing land is sandy/ loam soil which is typical of the area. Grasses present in all the camps are “Red grass, paspalum, buffalo grass as well as a number of finger grasses. The average carrying capacity of the farm is 4,5 ha per LSU. The farm is situated/part of a large catchment area for the eastern part of the district therefor has one of the highest rainfall measurements in and around the area. The average rainfall for the farm is in excess of 600mm a year. There is a strong underground water supply all over the property. Large dams down the main valley are a valuable asset for use and future development.
Facilities
•Cattle feedlot with 75m manger that can house 100 units- Pig styes to house 30 to 50 pigs with roof, feed troughs and water- Polled Cattle working facilities to accommodate 250 head comfortably
All the property is 100% useable for grazing and wattle free.- 20 large camps av. approximately 60 ha.- 3 small camps av. approximately 5 ha.- All camps well fenced with an average of 7 strands barded and plain wire- Camps are well grassed and carry exceptionally well.
• The lands a well situated close to the homesteads and shed facilities. A big
plus is the high water table to which Lucerne is a very good crop for
production. Lands have quality soil with good depth.- 6 ha's under dragline irrigation with 2 pump systems- 15 ha's drylands (smutts, lucern, roads grass)- 8 ha solar pivot land identified and prepared but not yet developed.- The farm has 10ha's of scheduled water.
Water
• All 20 camps have both dam and /or piped water from strong underground
water sources.
• The farm has 7 boreholes- 2 deliver in excess of 12000 Lt's per hour and are used to supplement the
irrigation system as well as give both houses water.- The northern camps are watered by a solar/windmill combination that deliver in
excess of 10000 Lt's per day which is enough to sustain over 250 LSU.- The southern camps are watered by windmill and deliver in excess of 5000 Lt's
per day which sustains over 150 LSU- The middle area is piped from a solar system to 8 camps delivering between
6000 and 8000 Lt's per day sustaining over 200 LSU- The farm underground supply is very good and none of the above holes dried
up in the drought years of 2017 to 2020- The farm is fortunate to have 4 irrigation dams that lead into each other. The
total hectares of the 4 dams in total is in excess of 5 ha of surface watering at
an average depth of 3m equaling 150'000 cubes of stored irrigation water.
General
• We have planned an area to install a solar power based centre pivot which will
increase production by 50% regards the agricultural ground.
