Hi, I’m Carol Buchanan, a proud member of the Pam Golding Property Group, wife, mother, friend and colleague. After starting my working career at what was then the United Building Society, in Durban, I got married to Graham, moved to France and then back to South Africa in fairly short succession. With the birth of our four children, I became a stay-at-home mother, although thinking back, I spent more time in my car than at home, taking them to school and their various sports every day!
Determined to keep my mind active and having always been interested in property, I wrote the Estate Agents Board exam in 1993, studying at night after the children were asleep. The day I sold my first property, a plot of land in Edenvale, Gauteng was a day I’ll never forget. That was when the bug really bit! I have been involved in property in one way or another throughout my career, and the recipe for my success is my passion for people.
I believe it’s not what you do for someone but how you make them feel that matters. Success does not happen by accident but comes as a result of hard work, passion and perseverance. One must trust your instincts and be true to oneself. Over the years, I have forged many solid friendships, as a result of which I have a very wide referral network which brings in much repeat business. I am accustomed to working with clients of varying personalities, from the experienced, most discerning purchaser to the novice first-time buyer.
Twenty years ago, we made the decision to move to Port Elizabeth, and we’ve developed a strong kinship for the local community and the heritage of this beautiful city. I love the historical buildings and believe in preserving the old while welcoming the new. I advocate by giving back to the community and believe that if we all work together, a little kindness can go a long way. When I’m not busy with people on property matters, you will find me entertaining, gardening, spending time with my family, or walking my dogs on the beach.
