Hi I am Marilize Portela, a proud member of the Pam Golding Properties (Gqeberha) team. My area of operation is beautiful Bluewater Bay, a serene coastal suburb just 20 minutes from the centre of Port Elizabeth.
I’ve been in the real estate industry for 39 years, starting in Durban, and then moving to Bluewater Bay in 1993. In those days, it was a small village with just a scattering of houses. Today, while offering two major supermarkets, a medical centre, a school, and other amenities, it remains a magical place to raise a family. From swimming, canoeing, boating and surfing to fishing and endless beach and river-bank walks, Bluewater Bay has something for everyone.
Over the years, I’ve served on the Bluewater Bay Ratepayers’ Association and various school committees. My husband, a developer, and I, in my capacity as the founder of a real estate agency in 1998, have played a major role in its growth. My passion for what I do is its own reward… I live, eat and sleep real estate! I’m a three-time finalist for the Property Professional of the Year, and I’ve won “most units sold” and top earner” awards from the Institute of Estate Agents of South Africa (IEASA). Honesty and availability to my clients are fundamental to the way I work, and ensure ongoing referrals and recurring business for me. In my 30 years in Bluewater Bay, I’ve sold to parents and then their children.
Leisure time for me includes swimming in the sea, walking along the river, and travelling. (But even then, I’m always available for my clients.) I have three grown-up kids: two sons who live in Australia, and a daughter in Johannesburg. Thanks to modern technology, I’m able to keep in close touch with my 10-year-old granddaughter in Australia - I treasure the time I spend with her.
