Estoril’s most well-known beach is Tamariz, a picturesque beach with a number of bars and alfresco restaurants on its beachfront. There is an open-air sea water swimming pool on its beach as well a castle that the royal family of Monaco owns, that overlooks Tamariz. Estoril’s longest beach is Monte Estoril, which is popular among residents as it is home to a number of bathroom facilities, beach chairs for rent and shops to buy snacks and drinks.

The Galeria do Casino Estoril hosts art exhibitions throughout the year of works ranging from young art students to professional international artists. Homeowners in Estoril are in close proximity to close by towns such as Belem and Sintra which offer beautiful attractions such as beautiful castles and palaces. Estoril also hosts major sailing, windsurfing, tennis and equestrian events. The old Formula 1 track also hosts occasional motor races.

As the oldest casino in Portugal and the largest of its kind in Europe, Casino Estoril offers many gambling salons, restaurants and nightclubs as well as cabarets and concerts. The Casino also hosts a number of exhibitions, typically for modern art. It overlooks Tamariz beach and has gardens lined with palm trees and fountains. This casino is also known for being the inspiration for Ian Fleming's James Bond Casino Royale.

Estoril attracts golfers from all over the world with its superb golf courses and pleasant climate. The Clube de Golfe do Estoril is an immaculate 18-hole championship course which provides special rates for Hotel Palácio guests. The Esotril Sol, just 7km North of Estoril is on the fringes of the Serra de Sintra, and offers 18-hole and 9-hole courses. Both of these courses are fitted with pro-shops, restaurants and club rentals.

Estoril has a limited number of shops, but larger towns including Lisbon are never out of reach. Estoril does however offer a unique market, the Feira do Artesanato, in July and August. Situated near the Casino, the market hosts stalls selling local arts, crafts and food every evening. Similarly the Mercado de Carcavelos in nearby Carcavelos, which is accessible by train, has a busy market selling clothes, food and crafts.

Nightlife

Estoril has a plethora of night time entertainment ranging from beachfront nightclubs and bars to live casino entertainment. Casino Estoril offers many special shows, music concerts and other live entertainment, while also housing jazz clubs, discotheques and lounges. Popular night time venues include Discoteco Bauhaus and Forte Velho. Tamariz beach has a casual night club with an open-air deck and beanbag chairs to create a relaxed atmosphere.

Climate

Estoril’s mild weather makes it easy to vacation and live comfortably in Estoril year round. Summer is warm and sunny with rain being very rare. August is the hottest month and is the best time to swim as water temperatures are at peak temperatures, along with July being the month with the longest days of sunshine. The summer evenings are warm, creating the perfect holiday feel and atmosphere for night time mingling.

Travel

Most places worth reaching in and around Estoril are within walking distance. It is very convenient to reach nearby Lisbon, via the train system which runs every 20 minutes or so from early in the morning until late at night. The station is conveniently located next to Tamariz beach. Most other places that are within walking distance are also accessible by train or bus - for example Belem, Cascais or Sintra.
