Montagu, the Jewel of Route 62, and the ‘mountain Mecca’ of the Western Cape, offers mineral springs, 4x4 routes, hiking- and mountain bike trails and good climbing for experienced mountaineers. It is also an important fruit-growing area and the produce of its vineyards is renowned for its sugary sweetness and balmy bouquet. The winding roads and mountain ranges offer the tourist a most rewarding and relaxing scenic experience. A unique rural atmosphere distinguishes Montagu as one of the best-preserved late Victorian agricultural villages in the Cape.
