Explore Greece

Greece is a popular destination, with a network of picturesque islands and one of the longest coastlines in the world, spanning almost 16,000km. The shores are world-renowned for their crystal-clear waters and pristine beaches. The country includes 6,000 islands and islets scattered across the Greek Seas.  Only 227 of these islands are inhabited, all sharing a diverse landscape and beauty.  The countryside embraces nature, with mountains, forests, rivers, lagoons, caves, and volcanoes to explore at your leisure.

Greek cuisine is rated as some of the best in the world, with great quality, fresh ingredients and fruit and vegetables plentiful.  Robust moussaka and refreshing tzatziki, olive oil, feta cheese and sweet baklava dessert are amongst some of the traditional Greek favourites – all paired with wine or ouzo for the most memorable meals. Influenced by both Eastern and Western cultures, seafood, fish and lamb dishes are inspired by the changes in season and typography.

From ancient times Greece was the birthplace of Western culture, introducing literature, poetry, drama, comedy and music to the ‘new world’. Today Greece is home to a multi-faceted culture, with philosophy, theatre and orchestral music forming the backbone of  its classic past. There are a myriad of archaeological sites and museums celebrating architecture and the different civilisations, as well as modern and folk art that showcase this country’s rich heritage and evolution. While the historical centre is on the Acropolis in Athens, the remains of ancient Greek culture can be seen throughout the area

In Greece there is always something entertaining to do, for people of all ages and lifestyles. During the warm summer months, the beaches, water sports and outdoor activities are enjoyed by all. In the cool of the evenings there is the option to enjoy a leisurely drink overlooking the sea, or visit the charming tavernas, bistros and inviting cafes filled with music and dancing. Throughout the year concerts and festivals take place and the main holiday period revolves around Easter, filled with traditional festivities.

Living in Greece

Greece offers an authentic Mediterranean lifestyle. From the charming towns, picturesque beaches with azure blue seas to the iconic network of islands, lush forests and snow-capped mountains, Greece is rich  in heritage, and alive with possibility. People socialise in tavernas or cafes, savouring fresh, simple healthy food, olive oil, wine and ouzo together. There is a vibrant nightlife with many theatres, music cafes, bars and trendy shops to enjoy. Outdoor activities include sailing, scuba-diving, kayaking, hiking, golfing and skiing.

The healthcare system in Greece is well ranked by the WHO for its performance and quality of service, giving residents peace of mind when it comes to their health and wellness. The country has a high doctor to patient ratio and has approximately 124 general  hospitals, and about 18 specialised hospitals, spread out across the islands and mainland. Life expectancy in Greece is amongst the highest in the world, with a low rate of chronic diseases prevalent.

Greece has a warm Mediterranean climate with plenty of sunshine and mild weather.  With only a few grey, cloudy days a year and the low humidity factor, even during the hot summer months, the temperature is offset by the refreshing sea breeze that results in cool, temperate evenings. In the north and mountainous regions, winter is chilly with snow and plummeting temperatures. On average the temperature is around 28.7°C in summer and 10°C winter.

Regular flights operate to all major cities and Greece has 15 international airports, with Athens International Airport voted one of the most functional and comfortable airports in Europe.
