The small farming town of Malelane is situated near the Lebombo Mountains in Mpumalanga. Proclaimed a town in 1949, Malelane was the first rest-stop between Maputo in Mozambique and Pretoria. Being only 55km from the Mozambican border post, it forms part of the Maputo Corridor along with other towns such as Hectorspruit, Marloth Park and Komatipoort. This area was previously known as the Kruger Shooting Concession where big game was shot for sport, but has since been proclaimed as the Kruger National Park, with all hunting stopped. These days, the town is mainly centred around farming and tourism given its easy access to both Mozambique, the Kruger National Park and Nelspruit
