Established in 1960, Ellisras is a coal mining town in the Limpopo province on the banks of the Mogol River. In 2002, the area was officially renamed Lephalale after the main river that crosses the municipality, but these days the names are interchangeable. The three main subsections of this area are: Lephalale, Onverwacht and Marapong. Here you will also find Grootgeluk, one of the largest open grove coalmines in the world.

Being a fast-growing town, houses to rent in Ellisras are attractive to those working in nearby areas and families or retirees wanting to settle down into a peaceful way of life away from big metropolitan areas.
