Litchi, macadamia and livestock farm

This is a well-developed farm Global Gap compliant and easy accessible from the main road to Eswatini. The farm offers ninety-five hectares of permanent crops with six hundred and eighty hectares of grazing. There is a potential arable area of approximately twenty hectares. The cultivated area and a part of the grazing area is undulating and the grazing along the northern border is mountainous. The farm is partly cattle-, razor wire- and game fenced. The farm is planted to litchis and macadamia nuts. There are 12 867 litchi trees on an area seventy hectares in extent. The cultivars are Early Delight, Fay Zee Sui, Mauritius and Third Month Red. Tree ages vary between four years and older than ten years. Harvesting commences in September and is completed before Christmas. The crop is sold on the South African markets and some is exported to Europe and the USA, according to production programs negotiated annually with exporters. Macadamia plantings cover an area of twenty-five hectares and cultivars are A4, Beaumont, Nelmac 2 and 816. Tree ages vary from newly established to three years old. Soils are rich and fertile red Hutton type with a clay percentage of approximately thirty percent. The altitude varies between 320 m and 845 m and the average annual rainfall varies between 850 mm and 900 mm. The average maximum temperature is 30,6° C in January, the hottest month, and 11,4°C in July, the coldest month. The grazing is used for Tuli cattle and Pedi sheep. The carrying capacity is 4 – 5 ha per LSU. Sixteen equipped boreholes supply water for irrigation and domestic use. The lawful water use allocation is 269 028 m³ per annum which is sufficient for the area cultivated. A sophisticated computerised micro irrigation system is used to irrigate orchards. There are two dams with servitudes in favour of the neighbouring farm. Buildings include two houses, a generator room, a water purification room, a compost store, a shed and a modern fully equipped packhouse with cold rooms.
