Picturesque Getaway Farm

This tranquil Karoo life-style farm is situated 56km north west of the historic town of Graaff-Reinet at the foothills of the sometimes snow-capped Sneeuberg Mountain Range. The farm boasts an expansive homestead built during the 1950's wool boom. The interior has been tastefully redesigned with a spacious open plan lounge/dining room/kitchen with two fireplaces which creates a warm cozy atmosphere during the cold months. The three airy bedrooms have modern en-suite bathrooms. Together with these there is a study, sunporch, scullery and guest toilet. A cottage, with two quaint en-suite bedrooms and a studio are great added features. This is all set within a large parkland garden overlooking the pastures and poplar plantation. There is also an old barn built in the 1800s, the original shearing shed and outside garages. The dam attracts a large variety of bird life especially in times of drought when all other dams in the area have dried up. There is a perennial spring within the dam that assures one of water even in the most severe droughts. The dam offers an ideal opportunity for fishing as it is stocked with bass. Another two springs below the dam are channeled into a holding dam which is used to irrigate about 4ha of pastures. This is equipped with permaset irrigation. One of the largest poplar plantations in the district is a sight to behold especially during the autumn season. The vegetation comprises mainly of mixed grassveld with dwarf karoo shrub and succulents. Only cattle have been farmed on this property for the last 15 years and as a result the veld is in a very good condition. The farm is divided into 3 camps with the water supplied by a windmill, solar pump and natural springs. Three water courses fed by the surrounding mountains traverse through the property. Naturally occurring springbuck, kudu and steenbok add to the ambience of this farm. The cattle, machinery, equipment and contents of the house can be negotiated separately.
