Muizenberg, the gateway to the Southern Peninsula, has moderate waves making it a popular hangout for body borders and novice surfers. Surrounded by the sea and mountains and pristine white sandy beaches. Behind the beach is a putt-putt course and a Super Tube (water slide).

Once a pastoral home of the Khoi, Muizenberg was first used by the Dutch east India Company, for the establishment of a cattle farm in 1670. The area then became a military outpost in 1743 under Sergeant Wynand Muis and was known as Fort Muys and later Muizenberg. There are numerous buildings of great architectural value reflecting both Edwardian and Victorian styles. The oldest building on the False Bay coastline is Het Posthuys (built in the 1670's), which is well worth a visit. When in Muizenberg a visit to the holiday cottage of Cecil John Rhodes, also gives one a taste of Muizenberg's history, as does the Natalie Labia Museum, a satellite of Cape Town's National Gallery.

The fine, sandy and safe beach stretches for 36 kilometres from Surfer's Corner to Sunrise Circle and beyond to Monwabisi. Thrill seekers can hire jetski's for some fun in the sun at Sonwabe Beach. Surfer's Corner (the Muizenberg station end of the beach) is an excellent spot for novice surfers and a number of local surf shops hire out boards and offer lessons. For the more experienced surfer, the winter surf at Muizenberg offers a greater challenge.

Hiking in the Muizenberg Mountains is a popular activity - these walks are accessed from Boyes Drive and the views are spectacular.

The Muizenberg beachfront Pavilion has a waterslide and a putt-putt course to keep the children occupied. Brisk breezes to howling south easters make windsurfing and kite-flying at Zandvlei a favourite pastime with both locals and visitors. A train ride from Muizenberg to Simon's Town will showcase the picturesque coastline and attractive bays.

SA Police Museum - situated in the original Magistrates Court and Carnegie Library, this museum contains many items of interest on early policing in this country.

The Masque Theatre offers a mix of amateur and professional productions that cover comedy, drama, musicals and one-man shows. It is a vibrant 170-seater state of the art theatre providing quality entertainment throughout the year.

The Lindbergh Arts Foundation, Beach road, regularly holds art exhibitions and evening recitals covering jazz, opera and classical. The foundation is housed in a beautiful Sir Herbert Baker designed house and also has a display of photographs of Muizenberg from times past.

Muizenberg regularly hosts local, national and international events such as Lifesaving and Canoe Championships. Surfing competitions and the Annual Cape Town International Kite Festival etc. it is also an integral part of the route of the Argus Cycle Tour, Two Oceans Marathon and others as well as an ideal location for film shoots, symphony concerts and much more.
