EASTERN CAPE, GARDEN ROUTE AND KAROO PROPERTIES

St. Francis BayThere is a distinct wildness about the Eastern Cape that gives it an undeniable magic – an allure that makes Eastern Cape real estate so valued and treasured by owners and visitors alike. Although it is steeped in South African history, culture and investment opportunities, it remains largely unspoilt by over-population, pollution, traffic jams and queues.

For this reason, and many others, Eastern Cape property is exceptionally popular, both as holiday homes and residential properties. A host of differing culture groups and its varied landscapes of bushveld, lush wilderness, pristine beaches, wildlife and snow-covered mountains make the Eastern Cape a wildlydiverse destination.

More than anything else, however, it is the unique hospitality and warmth of its people that makes this region truly unforgettable. In fact, the Eastern Cape is so memorable than many holidaymakers search for Eastern Cape property for sale or rent so that they, too, can own a piece of this enchanting region.

WELCOME TO PORT ELIZABETH, THE "FRIENDLY CITY"

Known as the ‘Friendly City’, Port Elizabeth is the largest city in the Eastern Cape. It is affordable and easily accessible – taking only ten minutes to get where you need to go by car. In terms of industry, the new Coega Harbour and Industrial Development Zone is already seeing the rewards of significantly escalated economic and commercial projections for the city.

Booming industry has also resulted in an abundance of new properties for sale or rent in Port Elizabeth. Port Elizabeth – also known as PE – is one of South Africa’s best beach holiday destinations with 40 km of unspoilt beaches. Summer stretches from October to April and PE’s weather is ranked in the world’s top five for coastal cities. Its beautiful Indian ocean, called Algoa Bay, is filled with dolphins, whales, and other sea life, and these can be seen from sea-front properties in Port Elizabeth, and otherbeachside properties in the Eastern Cape.

TOP EASTERN CAPE PROPERTY HOTSPOTS

High Street - GrahamstownPort Elizabeth is renowned as Africa’s water sports capital, offering world-class yachting and diving opportunities, while Jeffrey’s Bay, one of the planet’s surfing treasures, is situated only 40 minutes from the PE airport.  A little further up the coast is the holiday paradise of St Francis Bay, a tranquil village built on an extensive canal system that links to the Kromme River where it enters the ocean.

Grahamstown, the country’s first British colonial town and home to Rhodes University, is vibrant with the history of yesterday’s political struggles and the promise of tomorrow’s leaders. It has been the breeding ground of leaders, intellects, artists, historians and nature lovers for more than two centuries, and it continues to enchant its residents and visitors from around the world today. Named the ‘Garden of Eden’ by its earliest pioneers, the Garden Route is undoubtedly one of the most magnificent travel destinations in South Africa. Shaping its striking coast are steep rocky cliffs, luxurious white beaches and evergreen rainforests. In terms of real estate, lifestyle and holidaying, the coastal towns of Knysna and Plettenberg Bay are amongst the world’s finest, and Knysna properties and Plettenberg Bay real estate are both popular holiday home investments.

Situated between the Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Orange Free State is a unique hinterland area called the Karoo. Its hot, dry climate and barren landscape offer ideal conditions for its main economic activity of wool and meat production from its hardy sheep. Scattered throughout this scrubland are historical and charming towns like Graaff-Reinet, Nieu-Bethesda, Cradock and Aliwal North.  As evidenced by a steady rise in property interest over the past few years, these areas with their delightful eccentricities have become fashionable getaways from mainstream city living. The diversity of the Eastern Cape offers property for every taste, whether it’s found in the bushveld, at the seaside, in a secure development, a nature reserve, or quaint country village.
