While global economies
and markets continue to focus on the
challenges, which currently exist,
the 2011 Rugby World Cup presents
a welcome diversion, and we
wish the Springboks every success
in retaining their title and making
it a hat-trick.
Despite the fact that residential
property market activity remains somewhat
muted, some markets always find ways
to thrive - such as Johannesburg,
with its increasingly cosmopolitan
status. Here, in the city’s
Northern Suburbs, we are seeing a
resurgence of demand at the top end
of the market, as well as increasing
purchases by those from African countries
such as Ghana, Nigeria and Zambia
and international buyers from China
and India.
The sound medium-to-long-term investment
potential of bricks and mortar remains
evident throughout times of global
uncertainty, and as Laurie Wener,
PGP’s MD in the Western Cape
points out, offering some sage advice,
there are good opportunities
for investors to boost
their portfolios or to enter the property
investment market for the first time.

Long favoured as a desirable asset
and reliable vehicle for consistent and even exceptional
capital growth, residential property can also
be an excellent hedge against currency devaluation
and inflation.
In this edition, we also take a look at what is
meant by ‘life
right’ schemes and what they
offer from a real estate perspective, and ‘discover’
the ultimate getaway location, Vermaaklikheid,
a charming hamlet in the Western Cape’s
Overberg region and a tranquil and scenic haven
where one can forget the stresses of busy city
life. |
