In a world where global
events continue to take unexpected
twists and turns, the relative stability
of the bricks and mortar asset class
of property as a sound medium to long
term investment strategy is becoming
ever more apparent.
Curiously, residential property has
seldom been considered historically
as an asset class in its own right
but recent volatility in other asset
classes has again highlighted residential
property potential as an alternative
and indeed premier
asset class. A recent
manifestation of this was the inclusion
in the UK of residential property
in the IPD all property index.
Indicative of the sound investment
potential of residential property
is the sustained demand for upmarket
lifestyle estates, which has remained
constant even through the recessionary
period.
Offering a highly appealing way of
life, coupled with attractive return
on investment, luxury residential
estates are consistently popular among
a broad cross-section of home buyers.

A fine example of this is Kingswood
Golf Estate in George, where sales
are on the increase to both local and international
buyers for permanent residence and leisure use,
as well as for investment.
Some areas continue to buck the somewhat slow
recovery being experienced elsewhere. In the Cape
Town area we see steady growth in
property sales with marked improvement in the
sectional title market.
The popular university
town of Grahamstown is another area
experiencing ongoing demand for homes, including
investment properties for the buy-to-let market. |
