PAM GOLDING PROPERTIES MARGATE INVESTS IN DEVELOPING AGENTS AND STAFF
2012/01/18 12:00:00 AM
Pam Golding Properties Margate office reports achieving increased market share in several of its operational areas, in addition to increasing sales turnover amid still challenging economic times.
Dina Porteous, area principal for PGP Margate, which covers the areas from Shelly Beach through to Marina Beach, says investing in staff development is a key philosophy for sustainable growth, and in addition, this further boosts the professionalism of the local property industry.
“On 15 December 2011 at a graduation ceremony held in Cape Town, Herman Botha-Bosch (sales manager), Charl Cilliers (permanent rentals manager) and Gary Wolmarans (resort manager) graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in Management Practice,” says Porteous.
“This is a highly innovative, accelerated management development programme offered by the UCT Graduate School of Business’ Corporate Learning Department. The programme recognises the real world complexities of management and therefore provides a context-relevant curriculum in order to prepare managers facing such scenarios in their specific industries or sectors.”
PGDip’s emphasis is on process and knowledge, integrating self-awareness and analytical and systematic tools into a powerful active learning experience. The programme further aims to develop personal effectiveness and social awareness, as well as skills and leadership capacity.
Adds Porteous: “The programme is equivalent to NQF level 8, and the qualification is also registered by the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA Quality Id 84826) at 120 Credits. As the NQF level 8 is a higher qualification that the NQF5 real estate qualification, it means that graduates are exempt from the latter.
“We are delighted that the Services Seta allowed us a further two bursaries and as a result, William Docherty, who is in our body corporate department, and Ashney Naidoo, who is in the leisure rentals department, have already started their PGDip programme.
“As with many things that one does in life it is one thing knowing what needs to be done but another thing to apply one’s learning into real life scenarios. I can see the difference in my business through the results of the past year, and PGP Margate is committed to invest in the training and development of staff and agents while increasing value to our clients.
“This year we will create further opportunities to assist historically disadvantaged candidates who are located in our area to play a meaningful role in the property industry. PGP Margate complies with all equity requirements of a business of its size and is a level 4 BEE contributor, with transformation a key objective,” says Porteous.
