The Berenberg Bank Masters at Fancourt was a resounding success with Boonchu Ruangkit setting the record for the quickest three consecutive wins in his seventh European Senior Tour start, and matching the 1997 record for three consecutive victories held by Tommy Horton. His winning score of 216 handed the 53-year-old a three-shot victory over South Africa’s Bobby Lincoln and Scotsman Sam Torrance.
Ruangkit came to Fancourt in a confident mood, but admits The Links made him work hard for his victory. “This one was the hardest,” he said of a tournament highlighted by the gusting winds of the second round. Ruangkit posted a 78 in that second round.
On the final day, he went out with a single birdie amidst a run of pars. “It was a great honour to win in South Africa.” he said, “I have met Gary Player and played with him all over the world, but it is an honour for me to win at this course that he designed. I had to fight very hard for this victory, but now I am very happy.”
Despite bad weather, the exquisite Fancourt course and surrounds made for a memorable golfing event of which Pam Golding Properties is exceptionally proud to have partnered.
