On
the breathtaking North Coast of
Kwa-Zulu Natal lies
Prince’s
Grant Golf Estate. This North Coast jewel is situated
45 minutes north of
Durban and 20 kilometres from
Ballito.
Rated as one of the top twenty golf courses in
South
Africa, this Peter Matkovich designed course is also
a winner of the 5 Star Golf Experience Award, in 2005,
2006 and 2007.
The Estate, which covers an area of 154 hectares
is situated right on the coast with spectacular views
of the Indian Ocean and a beautiful golf course. The
course was acquired by the Homeowners in 1999 via
a R10 000 debenture, therefore there is no risk that
it will ever be taken over by one of the local or
international golfing consortiums. Access for owners
to the course at all times is guaranteed.
Prince’s Grant’s amenities, apart from
the golf course, include a community recreation centre,
tennis court, squash court, private lagoon, three
swimming pools, football field, 2 trampolines, a volleyball
court and over a kilometer of secluded beach.
Ultimately there will be 462 dwelling units at Prince’s
Grant of which 220 are currently built and 35 under
construction. An architectural vernacular has been
developed which derives its roots from the original
architecture of Natal. The clearly defined Building
Code ensures a diversity of form, within a style unique
to Prince’s Grant. The landscaping Code, which
is strictly indigenous, prompted KZN Wildlife to bestow
the estate with the prestigious award of “A
Site of Conservation Significance”.
The environmental principles espoused for the Estate
are to:
- respect and preserve the heritage of our natural
environment
- integrate the built form into the natural landscape
- ensure that all planting on private properties reflects
the adjacent natural vegetation
- ensure that only indigenous vegetation is planted,
preferably plant species that are
natural to the area.
The environmental practice at Prince’s Grant
has created a habitat in which small species of game
naturally ground in dune forests, such as bushbuck,
grey and blue duiker, spotted genets and various species
of mongooses, can regularly be seen. The estate also
has 249 species of birds. Being a nature conservation
area, pets are not allowed on the estate.
The Lodge, which also serves as the members’
clubhouse, has 15 well-appointed rooms, an à
la carte restaurant and a pub which serves light meals.
There is a salon offering a full range of treatments
including facials, massage and body pampering. There
is also a conference centre.
A CEO who is appointed to the Board of Directors
of the Homeowners Association, manages the estate.
The Board is fully responsible for the affairs on
the estate and members are elected annually at the
Annual General Meeting, held during September of each
year.
Prince’s Grant gives one the opportunity to
be part of a quality coastal development , which will
allow the fortunate few to relax in an informal, yet
exclusive atmosphere. It combines the solitude of
wide-open spaces with an abundance of flora and fauna.
It has a state of art electronic security system,
backed up by cameras that cover the entire periphery
of the estate and security guards. Access to and from
the estate is via manned gates with 24-hour horse
and foot patrols, ensuring owners peace of mind and
total security.
A full garden service is provided and residents can
let their properties out through a letting service
on the estate. Contract cleaning services are also
available making it an ideal “lock-up and go”
home venue. Monthly levies which include golf membership,
are R1617 per month.
Golf subscriptions cover both husband and wife and
all children under the age of 26 years. There is no
green fee charge to members but members pay a Levy
Stabilisation Fund of R15 per round. An annual Trail
fee of R300 is charged to all members who own their
own golf carts. For those who hire a cart, the Trails
fee is R10 per round.
The surrounding areas of the Dolphin Coast offer
everything from microlite flying in Ballito to a tour
of the battlefield sites of the Zulu Kingdom. The
King Shaka and the Albert Luthuli memorials are close
to the estate. If it’s retail therapy you’re
after the Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga
or the Lifestyle Centre in Ballito offer a wide range.
St Lucia, SA’s first world heritage site and
the game parks of northern KwaZulu-Natal are all within
a short drive, including Phinda, Hluhluwe and Mkuze
for that once in a lifetime game experience.
