Letamo Wildlife Estate is siuated in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, just 10 minutes from the hustle and bustle of
Johannesburg. The whole estate comprises of approx 500 hectares including tranversing land.
Only 69 houses have been allowed to be developed within
Letamo Wildlife Estate. Each shareholder owns approx 2 hectares of land, although only 1500 square meters is allowed to be fenced in to prevent grazing land taken away from the Game. Letamo is a very unique area in Johannesburg and comprises of a few habitats such as, Savannah, Bushveld, Acacia forest, Natural Wetlands, Koppies, Riverine habitate, Rocky outcrops and Dams. This allows a variety of animal species to exist such as Kudu, hippo, Waterbuck and Gemsbok. Animals on the estate include Black Wildebeest, Blesbuck, Duiker, Eland, Gemsbuck, Hippo, Impala, Kudu, Red Hartebeest, Springbuck, Steenbuck, Waterbuck, Zebra, Ostrich, Jackal, Caracal, Brown Hyena, Honeybadger, Cape Fox, Genets, Aardwolf, Bushbaby, Porcupine, Tortoises, Mongooses etc. Total game consists of over 400 head of game. Bird life is abundant and includes various species such as Owls, Hawks, Eagles, Fish Eagle, Comorants, Geese, duck, Kingfishers, Bee Eaters etc. There are no dangerous predators on Letamo Estate and this allows free movement of homeowners to mountain bike, walk etc.
2 very well stocked large dams and several smaller ones occur on the property. Two small rivers flow through the property. Recreation facilities in the immediate area include, Sterkfontein caves, Wonder Caves, Cave adventures, Various game farms and nature reserves, Lion and Rhino Park, Hartebeespoort dam (+-20km), Magaliesberg (+-10km), various country resturants and lodges.
Letamo Wildlife Estate has been Fully fenced with Electrified fencing and is access controlled by security guards 24 hours a day.
